News from Soundbytes Choir
Soundbytes choir thoroughly enjoyed entertaining a large audience at the Elizabeth Green Hall at Manor House school, Bookham in July 2019 and raised an incredible £1,080.37 for Home-Start charity who work with families and young children facing significant challenges in our local area. The choir have raised over £20,000 for a range of local charities.
Soundbytes choir was founded by choir director Hazel Hannam in 2009, starting with about 20 members, but now with over 60 male and female members, singing a wide range of songs in up to 5 part harmonies. The choir meet weekly in term times in Ashtead but many members live in Bookham.
Alto singer and Bookham resident Claire, says that “Hazel teaches us a very enjoyable range of songs with great patience and good humour. We may arrive at choir a bit weary from the day, but we soon feel energised and all thoroughly enjoy learning and singing together. Our vocal warm ups are feats in themselves including musical tongue twisters, Nursery rhymes in rounds and “lip trill” exercises. We’ve formed some lovely friendships and our highlight of the term is performing to our audiences who always generously support the charity for that concert and gamely join in with any audience participation!”
To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Soundbytes are performing their favourite songs from the past 10 years on Saturday 30th November 2019 at Leatherhead theatre with special guests “Singing it back” choir, the “Meredith White jazz trio” and “3’s a Chord” – a vocal harmony trio. Tickets available from Leatherhead Theatre box office from £12.50 plus levy. There will be a collection at the event for a local charity.
Hazel is also running a singing day or “Pop up choir” at the Arcot Hall, Manor House School, Bookham on Saturday 3rd August 2019, for all abilities, men and women.
